Mary’s River Quilt Guild

General Meeting

May 24, 2012

President Lisa Ullmer called the meeting to order and welcomed our guests.

Announcement: There is one more packet available for anyone interested in the block exchange with the Australian guild.

The guild secretary had raffle tickets and Chicks with Attitude for sale and accepted renewal and new member sign ups.

Library committee reported that they have a number of new books and encourage members to check them out. The full list of the guild books and videos are available on the website.

Raffle 2013 quilt blocks can be turned into Lisa.

Raffle 2014 blocks are available from Marcia and there is a need for one more person to make one of the applique borders.

Marcia also announced that the guild needs quilts for the Sisters Quilt Show; quilts can be sold at the show and all quilts need to be brought to the June meeting that are going to the Sisters show.

Round Robin members met on Monday night and the entire guild will be able to see the progress soon as the latest pictures are added to the blog.

Secret Sisters had their first annual Quilter Olympics and are planning a retreat at the coast for June.

The MRQG summer show has 27 entries and it was emphasized that the deadline is June 1st for submissions. The museum staff will advise members on June 6th on status of entries and a reminder is given that the quilts will have to remain at the museum for the entire show period.

This year the guild board positions to be filled include President, Treasurer, and Program chair. Please consider one of these positions and advise Lisa or another board member if you are interested.

Block of the Month explained the monthly opportunity to build a block, bring it to the guild meetings and perhaps win a whole set of blocks that month.

Permission to Play (PTP) submitted a grant proposal – thank you Jan T. for writing it – and was awarded over six hundred dollars for material and supplies to continue their monthly programs. PTP meets once a month at JanniLou’s and provides an opportunity for creative projects for current or past cancer patients.

Hospitality thanked the board for the treats and information about the programs of the guild during a meeting with members joining the guild during the past year. The new members also had the opportunity to see the storage area where service committee keeps it supplies and the guild library is maintained. This was followed with the monthly drawing for fat quarters, a gift certificate and special thanks to Janet Fogg for contributing two of her journals this month.

The pot holder count is growing for the guild fund raiser during the summer quilt show at the museum. Supplies are available and it is requested that all potholders be completed and returned by July 1st.

Show and Tell of the guild member projects was followed by a short break.

The program speaker was Janet Fogg who shared her story of quilting and beautiful quilt creations.

Respectfully submitted,

Sharon Fries

Secret Sisters....Let the Games Begin

14 members of MRQG Secret Sisters participated in the lst Annual Quilters Olympics. Three teams of 4 members participated in 6 events: Pincushion toss, Spool Building, Thimble on a Ruler Relay, Thread the Needle Relay, Name that Quilt Block, and a Four Patch sewing Race. Everyone Laughed Smiled, and noshed their way through the morning events. Great Fun! and the winning team members were rewarded with "priceless" Olympic gold Medals!
