Mary’s River Quilt Guild
General Meeting of April 25, 2013
President Beth Rietveld called the meeting to order and invited Program Chair Marcia Gilson to introduce our speaker for the evening.  Marcia then introduced Phyllis Prom, an art quilter from Eugene who shared her work and general information on techniques in her quilt work.
After the program there was a break and members were invited to take a closer look at Phyllis work, blocks from the Japanese exchange and our Chicks with Attitude.
Show and Tell began with quilts from the Service Committee and it was noted that many of the quilts shown would be going to Jackson Street Youth.
Beth began the business portion of the meeting by introducing our three guests and then asked members if they were members of Facebook and asked them to LIKE the Mary’s River Quilt Guild Facebook page.
Programs:  Marcia advised that the May speaker will be Jody Houghton who will share her experience of turning art work into a quilt line.  The Sisters drug store where the guild shows its quilts has asked that we have about fifteen large quilts with a wow factor and 80-85 small quilts.  For those who wish to send quilts to Sisters, please bring them to the May and June guild meetings with a completed form which can be found on the guild website.
Alice Hall is looking for quilts for a show called Challenges to be held at the Unitarian Church; please contact Marcia if you are interested in participating.
Raffle 2014 quilt continues with the hand quilting process and members are invited to work on it at JanniLou’s at any time the shop is open.  There are members working regularly on Tuesdays and Wednesday.
Library:  There are books covering a wide variety of subjects available and if there is a specific quilting book that you would like to see added, please let the library committee know.
Newsletter:  The deadline for the newsletter is May 6th.
Challenge:  There are still a few packets available for those interested in participating.
Potholders:  There is insulbrite available for the making of potholders to aid in the fund raising for the guild.  Remember that there will be prizes for the top producers.
Marketing:  Members have signed up and covered all the slot times for Quilt Safari.  Priscilla is looking for someone to help organize the sales during the Benton County Fair which will begin July 31st.  There is free parking and passes to the fair for each day worked.  Members are encouraged to pick up a packet of raffle tickets to help raise moneys for this year’s raffle quilt.
Beth asked for assistance in picking up chairs and tables at the end of the meeting and volunteers did help with this process.
Raffle 2015:  Theresa invited anyone interested in working with the committee to please let her know since they will soon be doing the shopping for the fabrics for the project.
Round Robin:  The April meeting was held and pictures are available on the website for the latest additions to the quilts.  All are very different which is making the projects fun to work.
Block of the Month:  Next month is the Hawaiian Shirt block and Linda went over some helpful hints on the block.
Hospitality:  Debbie announced new members, interested members and members who wish to learn more about the guild are invited to come at 5:30 pm on May 23rd (one hour prior to the monthly guild meeting) so that they can meet the guild board members and committee chairs.  There will be finger food and a tour of the library and service committee storage areas also.  There was the monthly name tag drawing for fat quarters and a gift certificate.
General Announcements:  Quilt Quest will be taking place in Toledo May 11-12.    There is currently a quilt show in Rickreall.
Beth reminded the board that the next meeting will be on May 8th at 6:30 and it will be at her house rather than the Wine Vault.
Chicks with Attitude:  A total of 121 chicks have been made with 61 sold.  Because chicks will be sold at the fair and at the museum during Quilt County, more chicks will be needed.  Another work day will be determined and members invited to join the fun or creating some more chicks.
Meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,
Sharon Fries, Secretary

MARY’S RIVER QUILT GUILD MEETING

APRIL 26, 2012

President Lisa Ullmer called the meeting to order and had the four visitors introduce themselves.

Announcements:

-Good Samaritan Hospital is planning a quilt show in October and asked if the guild could provide someone to judge the show. Nancy Bryant has consented to do this.

-The guild has a new email system which allows members to send message to board members by job title which allows the addresses to remain the same though board members may change.

-A group in Japan would like to establish a block exchange program with MRQG; nine persons are needed to participate. The theme is flowers and each participant will need to make 18 blocks that are 18CM x 18 CM.

-Emerald Valley Quilters advised of their show on September 29/30 (see .....www.efn.org/~evg)

Treasurer: Our treasurer announced that she will be away in May during our general meeting thus anyone needing reimbursements should contact her earlier in the month.

Raffle ticket packets are available for members to pick up and sell to friends, family or co-workers.

A quilt block exchange has also been established with an Australian group with a color grouping of green and brown to be used. Members to participate have already been found and they will show their blocks in October or November.

Library committee advised that there are more new books; be sure to come check some out.

Service Committee will now be able to establish its work scheduled to the first and third Thursday mornings from 8:30-11:30. They also advised that a large donation of fabric was received by a local seamstress. There are quilts to bind or quilt for the service committee. Also they are planning an Amish nine patch quilt with guild members being asked to participate in its creation.

Newsletter deadline is May 10th.

Judy J. explained that the history museum has trunks that are taken to classrooms to teach children about the history of the Oregon Trail. It includes blocks which need to be replaced with fabric and designs in keeping with the time period and she passed a sign-up sheet to ask for members to aid in this project.

The current raffle quilt will be hanging at JanniLou’s for Quilt Safari and only one time slot needs to be filled to help sell tickets.

Raffle Quilt 2013: The group has purchased the material and begun to build blocks based on the 54-40 or Fight and Corn and Beans blocks.

Raffle Quilt 2014: This group has also purchased fabrics and decided on a pattern. This quilt is scheduled to be hand quilted with the participation of the entire guild.

Round Robin has scheduled its May meeting and will post the progress pictures on the website to share with the entire guild.

It was announced that the guild now has a facebook page which will allow the guild an opportunity to share information and attract new members.

Reminder, there are still scholarship funds available for those who wish to attend a quilt class. The maximum given is $300, and it is asked that after your attendance at the class you share with the guild what you learned.

MRQG summer show is looking for your Favorite Quilts and the entries need to be posted by June 1. There are several members who will aid with the electronic entry. During the show members who belong to smaller groups are encouraged to hold your meetings at the museum to share your quilting process, answer questions and help with the sale of the potholders and chicks with attitude.

Potholders submitted prior to this evening totaled 90 pieces. The top three producers will receive a prize and as a reminder they will be sold for $5 each with thirty percent being given to the museum for support of its programs.

Chicks with Attitude project reported that 70 are completed and several already sold.

Hospitality had the name tag drawing for April and also had a drawing for the March items that were available since that meeting was cancelled due to weather. New members are being invited to come early to the May 24th meeting, 5:30 PM to meet with board members and share in some festive fun and food.

Sherry Clark, a former member of the guild has passed away. She was well known in the community for her courage in sharing her diagnoses and treatment of breast cancer in the local newspaper (GT). She also wrote a book sharing how caregivers and family members can best aid those going through treatment.

Block of the Month drawings were done for the April and March blocks. Next month the fabric choice will be Civil War with the pattern available on the website for May’s block.

On May 12th Toledo will have a quilt show and Linda B. will take quilts for anyone who wishes to submit quilts for the event.

A sign-up sheet was sent around to provide members the opportunity to aid in the set up and taking down of the room for our meetings. Next month our speaker will be Janet Fogg.

Members participated in Show and Tell of recent completed projects.

There was a short break and our speaker Allison Aller presented her program on Crazy Quilting.
