Mary’s River Quilt Guild
General Meeting June 26, 2014

Guild president Beth called the meeting to order and began by welcoming guests and new members. She then invited Carol to share some of her memories of Bunny Brehm, a guild member who passed away recently.

Heidi Henry of the Philomath Public Arts Council presented information about new banners for the town and invited guild members to submit designs. The banners designed must be three feet in height and two feet in width. They would like the banners to reflect the community’s past, present or future. Selected designs will be silk screened and the designers receive one hundred dollars. More detailed information was emailed to all guild members and remember the deadline is August 1st.

Program member Pam introduced our speaker of the evening, Jessy Yorgey, owner of Quiltwork Patches. She shared her history of becoming a quilt store owner and the many changes that have happened in fabrics and tools over the past 35 years.

After a short break members were invited forward for Show and Tell which was followed by the business portion of the meeting.

 Newsletter deadline is July 3rd.

It was announced that guild members have until August 7th to submit entries for the Oregon state fair, each submission having a five dollar entry fee.
Program: July 24 the guild will be meeting at Philomath City Park for a social time. Be sure to bring a chair and finger food to share. Quilts which were part of the Sisters Quilt Show will be available for pick up that evening. Remember also that the August program featuring Janet Fogg will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Corvallis.

Marketing chair Erica advised that unfortunately the guild will not be able to be part of Fall Festival this year. All members are strongly encouraged / requested to sign up to participate in raffle ticket sales at Sisters, the upcoming Benton County Fair (July 30 to August 2nd) and Fitness Over Fifty (August 4th & 5th). The raffle ticket income is essential for the guild because the monies allow us to obtain our special program speakers.

Raffle chair, Theresa noted that one packet is still outstanding and it is very important that it be returned for the completion of the quilt. Assembly has begun but all packets / parts are needed to create the quilt.

QIG chair Linda provided the garden owners names and introduced the hostesses for each garden.
  • The Brown Garden - Shirley Kerr and Linda Bretton
  • The Winograd Garden - Jan Tallis and Quilts for Caring Hands
  • The Rhoades Garden - Pam Duren and Dianne Jackson
  • The Riley Garden - MariAnna Biegel
  • The Morrow Garden - Edith Shields
  • The Marek Garden - Emily Miller
  • The Westwood Garden - Jeani Shriver and Harriet Plumley

All of the gardens need quilts and volunteers. Please go to the guild website to obtain forms and submit information on your quilts and please have the quilts provided to QIG by August 1st. There will be three shuttle buses running during the event and five park and ride locations. Posters are available in several sizes and members are asked to aid in spreading them throughout the area. There is still also time to make and submit small quilts for the Michael J Fox Parkinson fund raising garden.

Round Robin’s next meeting was scheduled for June 30th.

Library chair introduced three new books and questioned whether a book left at the library table was forgotten or a donation.

BOM held the monthly drawing and introduced next month’s block. Beth had a special request for all members to consider joining the board for MRQG. The slate of new officers needs to be presented at the October meeting and major positions available are President, Treasurer, Program Chair and BOM Chair. Beth hopes to have a list of candidates by the end of August and reminded everyone that many hands make lots of fun. During the meeting a short questionnaire was passed out to each member and collected at the end of the meeting.

Hospitality held the regular drawing for fat quarters and a gift certificate. The meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,
Sharon, Secretary
Alice, Historian
