President Barbara G. called the meeting to order.
  • Melissa from Corvallis is a guest, Andy C new member.
  • Sherri sent a note and put together the friendship blocks for Sharon F. and Carmen.  We got to see the finished quilts.
  • Marcia showed two old quilts obtained by Judy that will be auctioned off in the April meeting.  Judy is getting the info on who made the quilts.  General treasury will benefit.
Committee Reports:
Program :  In April, Trish Hodge (sister to member Eileen).  She has lived in many countries that have influenced her quilting.  She will have a powerpoint and trunk show presentation.

BOM:  Sharon F. this month’s block was Go Fly a Kite:  blocks won by Shelly.  Next Month is Windblown – embellish the hat; there are extra embellishments for you to use in the back.
Raffle Quilt 2017:  Still looking for someone to coordinate the raffle ticket sales.
Library:  No new books.
Round Robin:  Cindy G.  reports they meet every other month (Feb, April, June, August); pictures are on the blog.  Meetings happen at Cindy’s house at 7:00 pm; remember to bring your free to a good home basket contribution.  Next meeting is April 24.
Secret Sisters:  Wendi reported that they did something different.  They played bunko.  Flo was bunko queen – most games won and two bunkos; Theresa was the biggest loser.  Both received prizes.  Next month is annual white elephant exchange.  Current membership is 14.  Next meeting is April 20.  We hope you will be inspired to join us in 2018.
Challenge:  Judy still has packets available for $5.
Quilt County:  There have been notices in the newsletters of what shows need quilts and who are the coordinators.  Talk to them if you have a quilt for their show.  This year there will be about 20 shows that will be up during the Aug-Sept time period.  Marcia needs your show descriptions.
Marketing:  Packets are available for sale.  Marcia is asking for someone to coordinate the membership packet sales.  The Raffle Quilt is finished and ready for someone to coordinate volunteers at the different raffle ticket sales venue ( Debbie and Theresa volunteer to take care of the packets).  Quilt is called Star Bursts.  We are looking for people to be coordinate events.  Marcia will coordinate the fair.  Coordinating is taking the quilt to the venue, filling volunteer spots, reminding people to show up for their shift.  You can encourage volunteers to bring their own hand work to work their shift.  Other possible venues Fitness over Fifty, Organize talking to the quilt stores to schedule hosting the quilt, Philomath uncorked wine walk, Philomath Classic car show, the Philomath frolic.  We need new venue suggestions.
Raffle quilt 2018:  Marcia suggests having a planning committee make a quilt commemorating Oregon State’s 150th anniversary in orange and Black.  Marcia is willing to be on the committee and help sew it.  Several members agreed to help design and sew the quilt:  Lisa, Theresa, Debbie, Eileen, Libby and Linda.
Show and Tell
Mancy:  the service committee is showing quilts that were completed and returned this month.  We are asking again for your commitment to bind/quilt projects.  We have projects in the back available to take tonight.  We have requests from nursing homes for wheel chair quilts, these are small quilts easy to quilt and bind; there are fabric packets for sale, free magazines.  Benton Hospice has dedicated a room to showing all the Valor quilts and as the veterans arrive, the quilt is handed out.  Size is flexible for the Valor quilts – wall hanging to lap quilt.  We have quilts for long arm quilters ready to go as well as smaller quilts for the home sewer to quilt and bind.

Linda showed her bra and panty set.

Break

Program:  Rachel Kerley:     Moved to Portland to work at Intel drawing the designs of chips and from the library of chips.  She quilts out of the studio in her home and maintains a blog:  http://2ndavenuestudio.blogspot.com/.  She uses a long arm.  She pieces functional quilts, doesn’t precut and doesn’t see the value of following a pattern.  Published in Simply Modern.  She’s placed at Quilt con 2015 in the appliqué category.  Her main advice was to follow your heart and not necessarily the directions.

Next general meeting is April 27, 2017.
Next Board meeting will be May 3, 2017

Minutes respectfully submitted by
Lisa U.
