MARY’S RIVER QUILT GUILD

GENERAL MEETING OF JANUARY 26, 2012

Lisa Ullmer, guild president called the meeting to order and welcomed three visitors. Then the following announcements were shared:

-The members who won a block of the month grouping in 2011 were invited to bring completed quilts using their blocks; their names were placed in a drawing for a gift certificate later in the meeting.

-The Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show sent an announcement of the first juried art quilt exhibit to be held in Bend on February 3 with quilts being on display until February 25th.

-Benton County Historical Museum announced the annual fundraising event, “Valentines in Vegas” and is looking for gift baskets for a silent auction and inviting people to attend the event.

-People are needed to help set up prior to guild meetings and clean up afterwards thus a clipboard was sent around for volunteer sign ups.

-There is still a need for a site coordinator for the 2012 raffle ticket sales at the Coburg quilt show which takes place at the end of July.

-Still needed is a person(s) to head the 2013 Raffle Quilt program.

-During break members were invited to pay dues for 2012 and pick up raffle tickets to sell for this year’s quilt.

The library committee reported on books available and the extensive number of books and video material available for members to check out.

Service committee reported that fifty-seven quilts were donated in 2011. Twenty-six went to Community Outreach, one to the American Legion to aid in their fund raising efforts, one to Dial A Bus for fund raising efforts, one to loss of home by fire, nine to Uzhgorod, fourteen to Corvallis Manor and five to ABC House.

Challenge Quilt committee advised that all packets have been sold but it is still possible to arrange to get a packet of fabric.

Anniversary Quilt committee advised that the quilt top is done and found members willing to bind it.

Program committee noted that the speaker in February will be Tresa McConachie; March will be Jody Houghton; April will be Allison Aller: and Janet Fogg will present in May.

-Round Robin’s first meeting was cancelled due to snow but they have scheduled their next meeting at Grand Oaks club house on January 30th.

Secret Sisters welcomed eight new participants and their next meeting will be at Lisa’s Tea Room prior to the February guild meeting.

The MRQG show will be held July 13 to August 15th at the Benton County Historical Museum. The members are being asked to select one of their favorite quilts, submit two pictures (one of the entire quilt and one a close up of some detail) and complete an entry form by June 1. Due to limitations of space not all quilts may be able to be a part of the show. With permission others can be taken to Sisters for the show there. Quilts submitted for the museum show may be sold with a portion going to the museum and a portion to the guild. In addition members are asked to make a couple of potholders to be sold at the museum with proceeds going to support our guild programs. At a future time there will be information on making Chicks with Attitude pin cushions for fund raising efforts.

Block of the month reviewed the program for visitors and the drawing for this month’s blocks took place.

Hospitality had its monthly drawing for fat quarters and a gift certificate.

Show and Tell time for members to share quilts was led by those who brought completed quilts from their 2011 block of the month wins.

After a short break Mary Gallagher, Collections Manager for the Benton County Historical Society, shared with the guild how quilts are selected for the museum and history on some of the quilts in the collection.

The guild meeting adjourned after the program.

Respectfully Submitted,
