Mary’s River Quilt Guild
General Meeting of March 28, 2013

President Beth Rietveld called the meeting to order.  Recognition was given to visitors and new members prior to committee reports.
Quilt County:  Marcia invited those interested in signing up for a venue to display quilts please connect with her so that a location and theme might be established.  Since the Alzheimer fund raising program has been put on hold there will be a location in Corvallis where small quilts (in the range of 9 inches by 12 inches) will be on display and available for purchase with the monies to be used for Permission to Play.
Program:   The April speaker will be Phyllis Prom from Eugene sharing information on landscape quilt techniques.
Library:  It was noted that several new books were added to the guild library and that books checked out can be held for two months.
Newsletter:  The current newsletter is available on line and the next one will be out in May.
Challenge:  There are four packets available to purchase – it isn’t too late to start a quilt.
Marketing:  The next show location for this year’s raffle quilt will be JanniLou’s from April 26 to May 4 during Quilt Safari.  A clipboard was passed for members to assist with raffle ticket sales on 26-28 April and on 3-4 May.  Also any member can pick up a packet of raffle tickets to sale.
Raffle 2014:  Volunteers continue to meet at JanniLou’s and work on the quilting of next year’s quilt and members are encouraged to join in the fun of the work and chatter.
Raffle 2015:  Theresa Valentine has agreed to chair this committee and several others have volunteered to join the committee.
Round Robin:  The next meeting is in April and RR members are invited to bring items to add to the sharing / swap basket such as patterns or fabric.
Pot Holders:  Basket quilts are the theme for Quilt County and the museum’s quilt show so members are encouraged to make potholders with a basket on them, to use leftover blocks for some or create any potholder that they can imagine for the fund raising effort.  The goal is for the guild to make 150 potholders from 7-9 inches in size which will be sold for $5 each.   The top three makers will receive a prize and the ending date for prize eligibility is June 27.   To date 32 potholders have been submitted.
Chicks with Attitude:  As of the meeting sixty chicks had been made with 41 being sold (includes those sold at the meeting).  On April 6 from 9 am to 2 pm everyone is invited to meet at Consumer Power to make more Chicks.
BOM:  The drawing was held for the March Irish Chain blocks and samples of April’s Kimono block and May’s Hawaiian shirt block shown.
Permission to Play:  Their meeting was held prior to guild and they worked on teabag quilts.
Japan Block Exchange:  Blocks were available for participants to pick up at the break.
Hospitality:  An announcement was made that new members are invited to a gathering on May 23rd, 5:30 pm at the annex for refreshments and meeting all the guild committee chairs.  Any members who are interested in learning more about committees are also invited.  Hospitality then had the drawing for the fat quarters and gift card for those wearing their name tags.
Announcement:  On May 11 and 12th there is a quilt show in Toledo and guild members are invited to submit quilts and attend the event.
Show and Tell:  Members shared quilts that they have finished recently.
After a short break our speaker for the evening, Kathie Kerler shared information on what judges are looking for as they review quilts at a show.   Kathie is qualified as a judge for master quilters and a contributor to AQS American Quilter magazine.

After the program the meeting was adjourned.
