Mary’s River Quilt Guild
General Meeting, August 28, 2014
President Beth called the meeting to order and asked guests and visitors to introduce themselves.
She then extended the thanks of the guild to Linda Jewett and her committee for the wonderful job on Quilts in the Garden.
Linda Jewett shared the news that 568 tickets were sold plus 100 volunteer wrist bands distributed which means almost 700 people experienced QITG. The quilts contributed for the Michael J Fox Parkinson Research Foundation had sales of $972 which is excellent and Quilts from Caring Hands also was pleased with the results of their garden’s sales. Linda ended by noting that it isn’t too soon to think about chairing QITG for 2018 – she felt that it was a lot of fun and an opportunity to know many of the quilt members.
Beth announced that the open board positions for the coming year have candidates or volunteers and next month the names will be announced in preparation for the election of President and Treasurer. The next board meeting will be September 3rd at the home of Jan Tallis.
Chair Judy of the Challenge Quilt committee reminded everyone that they have two whole months to complete your quilt for the October program. Also it was noted that Secret Sisters next event is a picnic on September 18th at the Maple Grove area of Avery Park.
Marketing reported quilt raffle ticket sales of $299 during QITG plus seventeen Chicks with Attitude were sold during the event.
Round Robin’s chair Cindy advised that the group has completed the rotation of quilts in the group and the guild website has the latest pictures. She encouraged those considering joining the group next year to seek out current participants and noted that signups for 2015 will begin in September.
The Program for September 25th will be Positively Postcards by Bonnie Sable Welte and if people are interested in a workshop on September 26th please sign up at the break. October will be the Challenge Quilt presentations and November our opportunity to work on service quilts and find something new to us at the silent auction.
Hospitality had the drawing for fat quarters and a gift certificate and thanks to Janet Fogg there were additional drawings for beautiful notecards with her work on them.
Show and Tell began with the Service Committee sharing quilts completed by guild members and noting that there are quilts available for binding or quilting. There was also fabric for sale with the monies raised helping out the service committee projects or the Brehm family.
After a break our speaker Janet Fogg presented her wonderful work and answered questions.
The meeting was adjourned at the conclusion of the program.
