February 25, 2016
Meeting called to order at 7:00 by Sherri.
Welcome guests: 1 visitor (Sue S). 1 new member (Linda M.)
Announcements: Friendship blocks for outgoing members Carmen
(blue) and Sharon (yellow and blue – no signature, please) are due March
meeting. You choose the block, it must
be 8 inch finished (8 ½ inch unfinished).
Committee Reports:
Challenge: Judy reports there are still challenge
packets available. See Judy.
Quilt county: Thanks
for filling out the interest sheet last month.
2016 Raffle Quilt: Jo announced tickets are available in packets
for members to sell to friends and family.
First the quilt will be going to Gramma’s Attic then to Safari at JLC. Carmen has set up the sign up genius for this
year but is looking for someone else to manage.

2017 Raffle quilt: Judy J. will organize the Judy Niedermeyer
quilt that was donated to the guild .
She has obtained permission from Judy N. to use.
Secret Sisters: Wendi discussed SS January meeting where they
made mug cozies; February meeting discussed “log jamming.” March is the annual “white elephant” gift
exchange (nice gifts). Hoping that by
hearing about Secret sister events you will be inspired to join next year.
Class offering: Debbie Garvin will be teaching a paper
piecing class at Quilt Loft, March 26.
Pattern is art deco fans. $35. Contact Quilt Loft in Albany to sign up.
QnG: Beth R. is asking members to participate in
QnG. The event occurs on July 23, 10-4pm. Committee is still looking for 2 garden
hosts, people to staff gardens, set up and take down, publicity, quilts. Themes are (loosely defined): a bit of whimsey, little wonders (max 24X24),
contemporary, modern or art, celebrations (made for special occasions),
journeys (depict memories, life journey).
Clipboards being passed to sign up for various volunteer jobs/shifts. Beth encourages you to take a 2 hour shift,
provide a quilt(s), if you can’t work the day of, we will find something for
you to do ahead of time. Beth hopes that
everyone participates in our biggest endeavor of the year.
Round robin: Cindy G.
First exchange is February 29 at her house.
Library: Karen, a couple new books on Hawaiian
contemporary quilts, Ky quilt project.
Karen would like help picking books.
Please contact Karen with your ideas (contact info on the website and in
newsletter).
BOM: Sharon F discussed next month’s block
(magnolia bud). Only 7 blocks this
month. Remember for every 10 blocks
there is a $10 gift certificate added to the stash for an end of the year
drawing from participants. Shelly won
the drawing of the blocks for this month.
Hospitality: Phyllis announced that there is a new members
gathering prior to next month’s meeting in the Museum Annex. More info will be sent out. All New and newer
members are invited. New members will
receive a personal invitation.
Drawings: 2 fat quarters went to
Jan A. Gift certificate went to Flo C.
Program: Harriet discussed workshop chart that had
been sent out over email. There has been
a lack of response and she was encouraging people to sign up. Next month’s speaker is teaching a class at
JLC the day after guild. Ann Shaw
teaches Ruth McDowell style quilting (fractured plants), possible workshop
August 26. Currently only 2 signed
up. Need at least 10. Nancy Chong (appliqué) is teaching at JLC
Sept 23 and if there is enough interest we could hold another workshop on the
24th. Harriett needs to know
by March 25. If the timing for workshops
is not good, please give feedback. March
speaker is Colleen Blackwood, from Pendleton.
She has instructed often at the Outdoor Quilt show at
Sisters and will be teaching at JLC on March 26. Contact JLC if you are interested in taking
her workshop.
Service committee: Carol
F. represented Service. Clipboard being sent around to sign up to
bind or quilt a quilt. Currently
creating quilts for ABC house, nursing homes, Furniture Share, Pastega House,
and others. We have several smaller
quilts pinned and ready for you to
take. 5 quilts ready for long arm
quilters. Please remember to return the
pins. Please keep track of your hours
and when you hand in the quilt we will give you a fat quarter. We have made color coordinated packets for
sale at reasonable prices and they are available on the back table.
Show and Tell: Joyce showed
our 1991 raffle quilt that a friend won and she has been trading back and forth
between her ever since. They both love
the quilt .

Program:
Majestic Batiks (
www.majesticbatiks.com)
Reba Worotikan from Corvallis started the
company about 3 years ago and sells wholesale batiks to quilts stores.
She discussed the process of making her wax
resist Batiks and the traditional use of color and design in Indonesia.
Next meeting is March 24.
Next board meeting will be March 2, 6:30 pm at the Wine
Vault.
