Mary’s
River Quilt Guild

Meeting May 22, 2014
President
Beth called the meeting to order and welcomed members, new members and guests.
She
shared briefly the programs for the next few months: June will be Jessy Yorgey; July will be a
picnic at a park; and August will be Janet Fogg with the guild meeting at the
First Presbyterian Church in Corvallis.
All those attending the Friday workshop need to pay for the class by the
end of May and checks need to be made to Janet Fogg.
Sisters
Quilt Show: The guild will again have
its quilts hanging in the drug store and up to 100 quilts can be displayed but
the shop has some restrictions on the sizes for space management. Members can sell quilts as part of the show
and it is noted that the guild requests ten percent of the sale. Guild members are asked to work two hour shifts
during the show on Saturday by signing up on the guild website. Sharon Hoyer
generously volunteered to cover Friday raffle ticket sales. Information was given for a rental at
Sisters for $120 per day, accommodating four persons.
Raffle
2014: Erica advised that a request has
been made to include a booth in the vendor area for Fall Festival. Raffle ticket sells and quilt tying will be
the guild focus but members are also invited to sell items at the booth but
they will need to forward fifteen percent of the revenue to Fall Festival.

2015: Theresa needs to have all the
packets returned ASAP and a date will be set in June to begin assembly of the
quilt. Members will be advised of the
specific date, time and location for participation.
Challenge: Judy encouraged members to work on their
challenge quilts and reminded everyone that it does not have to be a large
quilt. Members love to see what others
are doing. Don’t get tangled up with too
many ideas – grab a thread and go with it.
Challenge is meant to be FUN.
QIG: Linda advised that there were forms available
for quilt submissions for the garden show event and separate forms for those
contributing to the Michael J Fox Parkinson research fund raiser. Each garden needs guild members so many two
hour shifts are available and accommodation can be made if you wish to work a
specific garden or time. Posters are
available and if you are traveling to cities and quilt shops within a
reasonable distance, please take a poster to advertise the show. Tickets will be available as of August 1st
at guild, Garlands Nursery, Shonnard’s Nursery, Home Grown Nursery, JanniLou’s
and Quilt Work Patches.
Round
Robin: Cindy reminded us that everyone
can watch the progress of the quilts by checking the website – a great way to
share the progress of the group’s projects.
BOM: Linda shared an example of the paper piecing
project for next month and has step by step examples for members to view during
break time. This month’s blocks were won
by Linda.
Hospitality: The drawing for fat quarters (in red for next
month’s BOM) and a gift certificate was held.
Beth
invited members to visit the stations in the back of the room for quilts and
patterns available by the evening’s speaker, to view the P2P and Sweet Grief
art work on display and to visit the service committee table during break time.
Show
and tell was followed by a short break.
Wendy
Mamattah presented her program Out of Africa: Story of Adinkra which provided
the history of the area around Ghana and the symbols which were developed by
the people to share their stories.
