MARYS RIVER QUILT GUILD
GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
JANUARY 28, 2016

The meeting was called to order by President Sheri P at 7:02 p.m.

Sheri introduced Mark, the Curator from the Benton County Historical Museum, who spoke about the Presidential Quilt Project exhibit presently at the Museum. This display features quilts which are all new creations yet utilize old as well as new fabrics and have been created by quilters from all over the country. The display will be shown until March 5th and he encouraged all to share this information with others.

Welcome and introductions: There was one guest, Sue, from Corvallis and there were no new members to introduce.

Announcements:
  • Membership renewals are now due for 2016.
  • Sheri P reported that she would like to provide a “Friendship Block Quilt" for outgoing executive officers. Instructions for the blocks are available at the back table at the meeting. Finished blocks should be returned by the March meeting. Sheri will put them all together.
  • 2017 Raffle Quilt: The quilt needs just a little bit of care to complete and also there is the need for a volunteer to coordinate the completion of the quilt. Judy J agreed to volunteer for this position to coordinate its completion.  Lynn G is credited with putting this quilt together thus far.
  • JCH Scholarship changes for 2016:
    • 1.    New scholarships will be limited to a maximum of $200 each
    • 2.    A total of $400 maximum will be granted in the first half of the year, and a max of $400 in the second half of year
    • 3.     Any unused portion will roll over into 2017 (fund presently has $911)
  • Quilt County: Sheri reported that Marcia (in absentia) wanted a commitment on the 2017 Quilt County project  as she needs to tell museum that MRQG will for sure be going ahead with this project, or not. She would like the Guild to commit to having a dozen shows in order to make the cost/work of putting this on worth it. She is asking for a minimum of 8 people willing to put down their name for a show tonight.  A vote was conducted as to should MRQG have Quilt County in 2017. A majority of members indicated their approval by a show of hands. A clipboard was passed around at the meeting for at least 8 people to commit to this event. One does not need to have the name of the show tonight as that information could be provided at a later date.
  • Service committee: Carol F reported that a sign-up sheet will be passed around requesting members to commit to quilt or bind at least one service committee quilt per year to help finish them. The Service Committee meets the first and third Thursdays of the month from 8:30-11:30 am. Volunteers are always welcome. Quilts that need binding or quilting are available this evening to take home. There is a reward of a fat quarter when you return a quilt.
  • Challenge committee: Packets are available this evening.
  • Round Robin: Cindy G reported that the Round Robin committee commenced meeting on Monday evening. Further details will follow via mail from Cindy to those on this committee.
  • Raffle Quilt 2016: “Double Take” is the name of the quilt.  Carmen S reported that the blocks were donated and the Service Committee put them together. Jean McD did a beautiful job of quilting it. The person who sells the most raffle tickets will have a treat – a smaller version of the quilt!  Jo  C will be working on the marketing and is looking for an assistant to help with this project. Packets should be available by February meeting.
  • Programs: Harriet P reported on the Workshops for 2016. In March, Colleen Blackwood from Pendleton would be doing a workshop, “Out of Focus” which will be held at JanniLou’s in Philomath. Colleen would present the workshop on Friday, March 25th, and maybe Saturday, March 26th, if enough interest.  An email will follow with the pattern and additional information. • Block of the Month: Sharon F featured this month’s block, “Las Vegas Flower”. She reported that for every 12 blocks there will be an additional $10 gift certificate and accrue through the year and winner takes all! Catch- ups count…no need to have it in the appropriate month.
