MARYS RIVER QUILT GUILD

General Meeting 1/24/19

The meeting was called to order by President Lisa Ullmer at 7:00 p.m.

New member and newly retired, MaryLou C., introduced herself.

Barbara G., past president for three years, and Jan T., who produced the newsletter for 20+ years were thanked and presented with gift cards.

Tomorrow, January 25, is the last day to turn in quilts for the Willamette Valley quilt show in Albany.

NEWSLETTER

Donna W., the new newsletter editor, announced that the newsletter will sell monthly camera-ready, business sized ads for $10 for members and $20 for nonmembers. Ads will also be placed on the web site.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

A Signup Genius for setting up and taking down the meeting room is being passed around for signatures.

A nonmember needs someone to repair an old quilt. Volunteer anyone?

TREASURER

Marcia G. said we now have 64 paid members.

PROGRAMS

Ann G. and Nancy are chairman. Ann said that the program for March is that members are to bring their first quilt to the meeting. They are attempting to have founding members bring their first quilts also.

RAFFLE QUILT

Theresa V. said that ticket packets are available to take for selling. She suggested that a photo be posted on members personal Facebook pages to sell tickets. She is looking for venues to display/sell tickets. The Fitness Over Fifty site is to display for two days and she needs four to five people to sell tickets.

QUILTS IN THE GARDEN

One or two people are still needed to chair the event.

QUILT COUNTRY

Judy J. said that Quilt Country happens every two years. It displays quilts in a variety of businesses throughout the county. A signup was passed around.

QUILT CHALLENGE

The challenge quilt this year is to work with a panel. Tonight is the final night to get a panel with lots of choices in the back of the room.

All venues have displayed 638 quilts.

ROUND ROBIN

Cindy G. talked about the kickoff meeting . The first exchange will be on February 4^th.

HOSPITALITY

Chairs Barbara G. and Izzie E. drew names and Phyllis P. and Judy J. both won fat quarters.

SHOW AND TELL

Completed pillowcases and a house quilt were displayed. Twelve quilts have been sent to Paradise, California because of the devastating fire. 160 quilts were donated last year.

Jeannie S. showed a small scallop-edged quilt.

Cynthia J. showed two quilts: Squared Up Leftovers and a BOM titled Missouri Thing Found In River.

Carmen S. showed three quilts made for her grandchildren: a Happy quilt with black background, black and white and bold colors with black.

Marion M. displayed a quilt made by her mother titled Blue Door.

Lisa U. called for a 20 minute break at 7:30p.m.

The meeting reconvened at 7:40 p.m.

Ann G. introduced the night’s speaker, Guild member Sandra Millett, quilt book author and writer.

The meeting ended at 8:45p.m.

MARYS RIVER QUILT GUILD

GENERAL MEETING 11-15-2018

President Barbara G. opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m.

A visitor, Sara W., was introduced.

HOSPITALITY

Ann G. drew names for gifts. Debbi G.won the fat quarters.

BLOCK OF THE MONTH

 Barb B. announced that this is the final month for the BOM program. Cindy G. won the month’s blocks.

Barbara G. announced that the upcoming second Willamette Valley Quilt Show will be February 1 and 2, 2019 in Albany. They will begin taking quilts January 26. The entry fee is $5 per quilt. There will be twenty-six vendors. Lisa U. said that those volunteering to sell raffle quilt tickets will get in free. The raffle quilt exhibit will be inside the main building this year. The sign-up sheet will be at the January meeting. The Mid-Valley Quilt Show is scheduled for April 18-20, 2019 in Salem.

SECRET SISTERS

Wendy B. told how the Secret Sisters works. It operates from January to December. She passed the signup sheet throughout the membership.

Barbara G. talked about the Silent Auction items on display that surround the room.

The new nonprofit arts center, Maxtivity, will open in Philomath this next weekend.

Lynn G. introduced Alice with the Touch Project in the Ukraine. They work with an orphanage who houses 400 children, provide a boarding school and a Romanian school. Benton County donated 200 quilts in 2003. The children selected their own quilts. The organization has taken over one million dollars since working with the Touch Project.

SERVICE

The Service committee members stood to be recognized. They made over 120 donation quilts in 2018. The makers of the quilts, who made 65 pillowcases and more than 75 veteran quilts, stood to be recognized. Slides of the quilts were shown. Some of the quilts went to the Lebanon Veterans Home.

The Service Committee meets once a week from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The fabric sale prior to this meeting raised $350. They need a donated bookcase to handle more supplies/books.

ELECTION 

Marsha G. called for nominations from the floor. There were no nominations. Those on the ballot were:

Ballots were passed out to members attending. After collection, the ballots were counted. The candidates were elected.

SHOW AND TELL

Linda: red/blue jeans quilt

Yvonne: tee shirt quilt, a teal quilt for her granddaughter, a black, gray and white quilt.

Barbara called for a break at 7:45 and invited members to look at the silent auction items. The meeting rejoined at 7:55.

The Round Robin members showed their quilts that had piecing added to the central design created by the owner. Members were: Judy J., Sandy M., Karen G., Ruby, Alice, Pam, Dawnell T., Linda, Cindy G.

2019 Raffle Quilt

The completed design was exhibited. It is a white star pattern surrounded by scrappy fabrics. The double border is a narrow black inner border and the outer border is teal with a black design.

CHALLENGE QUILT

Judy J. is handling the 2019 challenge quilt. Information handouts will be available at the January 2019 meeting.

LIBRARY

Karen G. said there is a new book that has already been checked out.

Phyllis P. , after many years of handling Hospitality, is stepping down. Her work was acknowledged by the members. Barbara G. will be cohosting next year.

Thank you gifts were presented to out going chair heads: Lisa U., Ann G. and Marsha G. Jan T. was recognized for 22 years of being newsletter editor. Donna is taking over her job.

Barbara G. dismissed the meeting at 8:48 p.m.
