General Meeting Minutes
7/28/11
Lisa Ullmer, President, called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.
Ms. Ullmer announced that there were five guests. She asked them to introduce themselves.
Ms. Ullmer announces the board and chairperson positions that would need to be filled for the upcoming year. For the Board the Vice-President and the Secretary positions need to be filled for two-year terms. Chairperson positions that are needed are Block of the Month, Marketing, and Meeting Setup.
Priscilla Newberger, Treasurer, announced that she had monies from quilts sold at the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show and that members who sold quilts should pick up their monies.
Ms. Ullmer announced that the Benton County Historical Museum would be having a quilt class called Beauty Secrets on October 1st (Saturday), the class is about New York Beauty quilts. Ms. Ullmer also reminded members that the JoAnne Cutler Hay Scholarship still has monies available for this year and that volunteer sign-ups would be in the back of the room during the break.
Stephanie Smith announced that she had fabric samples to give away to anyone who was interested.
Corey Arentz, vice-president, has quilts that are returning from the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show. Members should see her to retrieve their quilts.
Naomi Widener announced that she would be arranging a block exchange with a group of quilters in Australia, she asked that interested members contact her.
Jean McDaniel announced that the library had new items but that they were already checked out.
Lynn Grube from the Service Committee announced that the committee had four quilts that needed binding. She also announced that the service committee would have quilts for tying at the county fair.
Judy Juntunen announced that she was looking for members to join her on the challenge quilt committee. She also reminded everyone that the challenge quilts are to be presented at the October Guild meeting.
Shirley Strub sent a sign-up sheet to sell raffle tickets at the Benton County Fair on August 3-6 2011.
Theresa Valentine, Chair of the 2012 Raffle Quilt, asked for volunteers to sign up to do the tree blocks for the raffle quilt. Ms. Valentine also requested that members sign up for set-up and take-down at meetings.
Cindy Graff reported that the Round Robin group had their last meeting and would show their completed Quilt tops to the general membership during the September meeting. She indicated that December 31st would be the sign-up deadline for the 2012 Round Robin group.
It was announced that the Secret Sisters group had a meeting the prior week.
Pam Duren, Marcia Gilson, Dianne Jackson and Barb Baxter are the committee for Quilts in the Garden on August 27th. Ms. Duren announced that the are looking for Quilts for the Gardens. It was also mentioned that the display at Footwise, a display called “Something to Dye For” and curated by Ms. Valentine and Ms. Debbie Garvin, in Corvallis had information on Quilts in the Garden and that the event would be promoted during the First Thursday Art Walk (in August). Ms. Duren also reminded attendees of the Quilts in the Gardens Bookmarks available for distribution. Ms. Duren also asked for more volunteers for the event and also looking to borrow coolers for water at the gardens. The best parking option is at 35th and Western and the bus for the event also makes a stop nearby.
Ms. Jackson announced that the July meeting is the last opportunity to drop off quilts for the Quilts in the Garden event. Quilts can still be dropped off at Janilou’s. Labels with name and phone number need to be on the quilts in addition to the paper labels (which can be found on the MRQG website).
Marcia Gilson announced that there are several shows for Quilt County that still need quilts; Block Party - Block of the Month quilts curated by Barb Baxter at Shonnard’s, Down on the Farm - farm related quilts curated by Judy Juntunen at Gathering Together Farm, Sweet Indulgences - curated by Peggy Pierson at Burst, Quiet Reflections - Alzheimer’s quilts, Binding to Binding - book related quilts curated by Naomi Widener at the Book Bin, OSU Women’s Center - Lady Sings the Blues curated by Bethe Reitveld, and the LaSelles Center - Quilts for sale. Ms Gilson also reminded the guild that the postcards for quilt county were available for distribution.
Ms. Gilson also reminded attendees that Philomath was having a wine event on July 30th from 3:30pm to 7pm.
Joan Helzer conducted the Block of the Month drawings for June. Ms. Helzer also showed an example of the Block of the Month for August.
Phyllis Pearson conducted the Hospitality drawings for May. One $10 gift certificate and a set of fat quarters were given away.
Show and Tell was conducted.
Break was called at 7:45pm and ended at 7:50 pm.
LuAnn Kessi presented a variety of quilts and discussed quilting techniques.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00pm.
