Mary’s River Quilt Guild
General Meeting of April 25, 2013
President Beth Rietveld called the meeting to order and
invited Program Chair Marcia Gilson to introduce our speaker for the
evening. Marcia then introduced Phyllis
Prom, an art quilter from Eugene who shared her work and general information on
techniques in her quilt work.
After the program there was a break and members were invited
to take a closer look at Phyllis work, blocks from the Japanese exchange and
our Chicks with Attitude.
Show and Tell began with quilts from the Service Committee
and it was noted that many of the quilts shown would be going to Jackson Street
Youth.
Beth began the business portion of the meeting by
introducing our three guests and then asked members if they were members of
Facebook and asked them to LIKE the Mary’s River Quilt Guild Facebook page.
Programs: Marcia
advised that the May speaker will be Jody Houghton who will share her
experience of turning art work into a quilt line. The Sisters drug store where the guild shows
its quilts has asked that we have about fifteen large quilts with a wow
factor and 80-85 small quilts.
For those who wish to send quilts to Sisters, please bring them to the
May and June guild meetings with a completed form which can be found on the
guild website.
Alice Hall is looking for quilts for a show called
Challenges to be held at the Unitarian Church; please contact Marcia if you are
interested in participating.
Raffle 2014 quilt continues with the hand quilting process
and members are invited to work on it at JanniLou’s at any time the shop is
open. There are members working
regularly on Tuesdays and Wednesday.
Library: There are
books covering a wide variety of subjects available and if there is a specific
quilting book that you would like to see added, please let the library
committee know.
Newsletter: The
deadline for the newsletter is May 6th.
Challenge: There are
still a few packets available for those interested in participating.
Potholders: There is
insulbrite available for the making of potholders to aid in the fund raising
for the guild. Remember that there will
be prizes for the top producers.
Marketing: Members
have signed up and covered all the slot times for Quilt Safari. Priscilla is looking for someone to help organize
the sales during the Benton County Fair which will begin July 31st. There is free parking and passes to the fair
for each day worked. Members are
encouraged to pick up a packet of raffle tickets to help raise moneys for this
year’s raffle quilt.
Beth asked for assistance in picking up chairs and tables at
the end of the meeting and volunteers did help with this process.
Raffle 2015: Theresa
invited anyone interested in working with the committee to please let her know
since they will soon be doing the shopping for the fabrics for the project.
Round Robin: The
April meeting was held and pictures are available on the website for the latest
additions to the quilts. All are very
different which is making the projects fun to work.
Block of the Month: Next
month is the Hawaiian Shirt block and Linda went over some helpful hints on the
block.
Hospitality: Debbie
announced new members, interested members and members who wish to learn more
about the guild are invited to come at 5:30 pm on May 23rd (one hour
prior to the monthly guild meeting) so that they can meet the guild board
members and committee chairs. There will
be finger food and a tour of the library and service committee storage areas
also. There was the monthly name tag
drawing for fat quarters and a gift certificate.
General Announcements:
Quilt Quest will be taking place in Toledo May 11-12. There
is currently a quilt show in Rickreall.
Beth reminded the board that the next meeting will be on May
8th at 6:30 and it will be at her house rather than the Wine Vault.
Chicks with Attitude:
A total of 121 chicks have been made with 61 sold. Because chicks will be sold at the fair and
at the museum during Quilt County, more chicks will be needed. Another work day will be determined and
members invited to join the fun or creating some more chicks.
Meeting adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Sharon Fries, Secretary
