Mary’s River Quilt Guild
General Meeting of January 22, 2015

President Sheri called the meeting to order and welcomed several guests and a new member.  Sheri shared the following announcements:

  • Beth R. is the guild’s nominee for the Philomath Samaritan awards which will take place on February 11th at the high school.  The guild has five tickets for the event, please let Sheri know if you wish one.
  • In September the Philomath Scout Lodge will have a quilt show and have invited guild members to show quilts and the organizers invite those interested in having a vendor tables to contact them. The tables are available at a cost of $50 and interested member(s) may wish to sign up for one.
  • The guild is looking for a few members who would be interested in serving as an ad hoc subcommittee as part of the program committee.  The subcommittee would help find venues and aid in making arrangements for guild speakers who would have workshops the day after their guild presentations.
  • The guild is still searching for someone to serve as co-chair for Quilts in the Garden 2016
  • Our current secretary Sharon has found it necessary to resign and a volunteer is needed to finish her term.

Program explained the February show which will consist of items that members have sewn (not knit or crocheted).  There are five categories consisting of Lingerie, Vests and Jackets, Dresses-Skirts-Blouses, Outer garments (coats and jackets), and Bags.  If you have the pattern please bring it along so that others interested in making an item will have a reference.   If you have made special items for grandchildren or other family members, they are to be included in the show also.  In addition the local quilt shops will have tables with samples, patterns and information on upcoming classes for sewing projects.  The program committee also thanked all of the members who brought so many items to contribute to Coffee Creek Quilters.

Quilt County 2015 was introduced by Marcia who explained that this has been a part of the guild since it began 22 years ago and the event is coordinated with the history museum.  Members can organize a show in a local shop or office, establish a theme, and have a great time sharing their love of quilting.  We hope to have 30 venues and are half way there with fifteen locations arranged.  All information is needed by the end of March so that a brochure can be made and ready to go by the July quilt show in Sisters.

Challenge Committee still has packets and ties to trade.

Raffle 2015 showed this year’s completed quilt, Midnight Sun.  Thanks was given to all of those who worked on the quilt which was long armed by Gail and Jean and the binding added by Debbie G.

Round Robin will have its first meeting January 26 at the home of Cindy G.  This meeting is a social time with organizational discussions and no projects needed- yet.

BOM began by inviting all of those who won blocks in 2014 to show completed or nearly completed projects.  There were two gift certificates awarded.  The February block was shown and a $10 gift certificate added to the magic jar.  For every 12 BOM blocks brought a gift certificate will be added to the jar along with the names of those who made a BOM.  At the end of the year, one lucky person will win all the gift certificates by random drawing from the names in the magic jar.

Hospitality invited all of those who joined the guild in 2014 and 2015 to arrive early to the next general meeting for a get acquainted time with board and committee chairs of the guild.  They will have an opportunity to learn more about what the guild does, have a tour of the service committee’s work and enjoy refreshments prior to the regular guild meeting.  There was a drawing for fat quarters and a gift certificate for all those who wore their name tags.

Marketing for 2014 gave a resounding thanks to all of those who helped with ticket sales last year and awarded a prize.

Service Committee reported that they contributed a large box of items which included children’s fabric designs to the Coffee Creek Quilters along with thread.  They had quilts in need of quilting and one to bind; all available during the break for willing members to take home and return at the next guild meeting.

There will be a small silent auction each month with items contributed by guild members.  Be sure to look for your next great treasure at the auction table.

Library committee has received several requests for new books and is working on obtaining them.  The committee would like to have members put their names on the request slips so that they can let people know then the book that they are interested in is available.

Each month assistance is needed to help set up for meetings and break down after meetings.  Please take a moment to add your name to help one month.

Show and Tell of quilts by the members took place followed by a short break.

Chris Irwin, treasurer of the Coffee Creek Quilt Program was our speaker for the evening sharing the history of the program, the work process for the women who participate and the positive outcomes of the program.

Sheri ended the meeting by announcing that Cheryl J. and Beth R have agreed to co-chair QIG 2016.

The next guild meeting is February 26th and the next board meeting March 4th at Stoneybrook.

Respectfully submitted,
Sharon MRQG Secretary
Alice MRQG Historian
