Mary’s River
Quilt Guild
General
Meeting May 6, 2016
President Barbara Gordon called the
meeting to order and welcomed back a returning member (Martha B) in attendance.
Program : Ann Johnston discussed her design
process. She shared information on raw
edge piecing, dying fabric, using dyed organza to create shadows. Her current focus is on creating quilts
representing the High Sierras.
Quilts in the Garden: Beth requested that everyone take 5 book
marks and 2 posters to help distribute information for the July 23rd
event. Please let her know where you
will be taking the posters (church, athletic clubs, quilt stores out of
Corvallis). She has also requested that every guild member
provide at least one quilt for the gardens, in the hopes of having 300 quilts
on exhibit. Quilts should be brought to
Guild at the June meeting and after that to Beth’s house. We are looking for 5-10 gallon water
jugs. Please let Beth know if you have
one we can borrow.
Break
Show and Tell.
Committee Reports:
Service: Lynn reported that we have donated 25 quilts
so far this year. Another batch is ready
to be distributed. We have packets and
books for sale. There are quilts for you
to help us finish. We so appreciate your
help in finishing the tops we have accumulated.
Benton Hospice has asked us to make small wall hanging (10X 16 – needs a
sleeve) to lap quilts to give to Veterans when they are admitted and then to go
home with the family after the Veteran has passed. We are currently being asked for 10 quilts
and then the turn around will slow down as additional Veterans enter Hospice. We have red white and blue fabric for you to
use, should you choose, as well as
patterns to borrow. The Guild received a
thank you note for the latest Habitat for Humanity homeowners. Pictures of the children wrapped in their
quilts is available on the Altrusa website.
Sisters Quilt Show: Marcia collected quite a few quilts for
Sisters tonight. Most of the quilts are for
sale. Remember that the Guild requests
that if you sell a quilt you donate 10%.
Last date to hand her quilts is June 23rd. They will be delivered to the Pharmacy by
June 30. Up, up and Away quilts need to
be handed in by June 5th.
Quilts can be delivered noon-5 at the Wine Vault: Fri-Sun.
Marketing: Jo C. sent around sign up for sisters quilt
show. Next up is Fitness over Fifty
(Priscilla is organizing this). Safari
sold $268 in raffle tickets.
2016 Raffle: Jean M.
showed the incentive quilt. She
has tickets that you earn for each shift you work or each packet you sell for
the Raffle quilt. Please see Jean to get
your tickets as you work shifts, etc.
Good luck!
Round Robin: Cindy next meeting is June 13.
Library: Karen has several new books. Ann Johnston donated all of her books (we
already had 2 in the collection) and the library purchased her DVD. Last month’s speaker, Dodi Paulson gave 3
books. Quilting the Classics, Modern
quilts, and Mixing quilt elements are three books the library purchased have
arrived.
Secret Sisters: Last meeting Judy led a discussion on Civil
War quilts. Next month is the beach
retreat. What happens at the beach,
stays at the beach!
BOM:
Shellie showed a quilt with all
the blocks assembled. Next month’s block
is called
crocus. Eight blocks handed in. Sharon F. won the blocks.
Hospitality: Fat quarters won by Allie M. Gift certificate by Mancy A.
Next general meeting is June 23.
Next Board meeting will be “virtual”
beginning July 6.
Minutes respectfully submitted by,
Lisa U.
