Mary’s River Quilt Guild
General Meeting, May 25, 2017
The Guild hosted a new members gathering prior to the meeting. Six new members attended and talked about their quilting background and what brought them to the Guild. Welcome to Tina W., Izzie, Deborah, Andy, Ann and Joyce.
President Barbara G. began the General meeting with announcements.
· One guest was in attendance. Reva was visiting her family from Palo Alto.
· Coffee Creek Quilter fundraiser is happening May 27 at St. Francis church Parish Hall in Wilsonville (more info in latest newsletter)
· Heart of the Basin quilt guild in Kalamath Falls is having a show in August.
· June 22nd Guild meeting will be at the Philomath High School Auditorium. Please wear your name badge.
· Raffle Quilt ticket sales has added a new venue at Music in the Park at the Philomath City Park. Barbara will sit and sell tickets but asks for members to help. Dates are June 15, July 20, and August 17.
· Raffle Quilt 2018 will be having a work party on June 10 at CPI. Contact Marcia for more information.
· We encourage you to share the picture of the current raffle quilt on your social media. Members have started to do that and have sold several hundred dollars worth of tickets to friends and family over the internet.
· Theresa has packets of Raffle tickets for members to take and sell to friends and family.
· Philomath Antique Auto Show: Nancy B. asked for volunteers to help her man the raffle quilt booth on July 8 from 9-2. In addition to selling raffle tickets, members can sell small items. Nancy has a process for tracking the inventory and payments.
· Raffle Quilt will be at the Wine Vault in Philomath for Memorial Weekend. Come have a glass of wine and buy a ticket.
· Quilts in the Garden: Tina and Nancy, new members to the guild, have volunteered to co-chair QnG for 2018. They are looking for garden ideas and people interested in helping the committee. Gardens will be chosen this summer.
· Financial scam update: This is still under investigation and the Guild has been asked to limit discussion. Because of this financial set back it is more important than ever to support the Guild and help to sell raffle tickets.
· Quilt County: Alice M. is asking for people to submit quilts for “Our Favorite Things” show at the 1st Congregational Church show that will run August 14-October 10. They will be featuring Cindy McNutt’s quilts and are asking for members quilts that are no bigger than 4X5 (20 square feet).
Hospitality: Fat quarters were won by Theresa. Gift certificate by Beth.
Block of the Month: Next month the pattern is Monkey in the Tree (or snails tail). Pattern is on the web. Only four blocks were submitted this month and were won by Cindy. Cindy showed her quilt top made from this year’s Block of the Month to inspire people to participate.
Secret Sisters: This month they held a salad dinner at Theresa’s. Theresa demonstrated two sided binding and the importance of doodling to improve your machine quilting. Next month they go to the beach for their annual retreat. This is the last time they will have Jan A.’s beach house for the retreat as she has sold it. Wendi hopes that the description of what activities Secret Sisters do will encourage new members to join and get to know fellow guild members in a smaller setting.
Round Robin: Cindy announced that the next meeting date has changed from June 19 to June 26.
Challenge: Judy has a few packets still for sale and notes that it isn’t too late to start your Challenge project or come up with a good story as to why you didn’t!
Quilt County: Marcia described quilt county. This year there are 24 exhibits that will run during all or part of the mid-August – mid October timeframe. Wendi asked for quilts for her Nature Reflections show being held at Eats and Treats. Theresa asked for quilts with a book/title/or author theme for the Corvallis Library show. Naomi asks for quilts that are in the theme of sweets and a movie for hanging at Bursts Chocolates (small quilts). The brochure is at the printer and Marcia asks that members help distribute them around during their travels.
Program: Marcia announced that the June meeting, featuring Caryl Bryer Fallert, will have no business meeting. There will be a segment of the SAQA traveling quilt show there for us to see. Enter the Philomath High School at the main entrance. Cost is free to members (check in at the desk), $10 visitors, $8 students and other guild members who where their name tags. July meeting will be the annual potluck and be held at the Philomath City Park. Watch email and newsletter for additional information.
Service: Lynn and the service committee displayed 4 quilts donated to the Guild. Three from Flo. There are quilts ready for members to quilt and bind in the back. In addition, there is a table of free magazines; patterns, books and fabric for sale. Our on-going project to provide wall hangings for Hospice Veterans is continuing and there is 4th of July themed fabric available for free for you to use in that project.
Tonight’s program featured member Debbie G. Debbie shared her quilt journey and methods along with a trunk show of her work and collections.
