MARY’S RIVER QUILT GUILD
General Meeting 5-23-19

The meeting was called to order by VP Theresa V. at 7:00 p.m.

New member Linda B. introduced herself.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Arts Alive event will be August 23, Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
The memorial service for Carol Farnes will be Sunday, May 26.
Theresa V. reminded the membership that there are scholarships available for  members wishing to take classes. The application is on the website.

QUILTS IN THE GARDEN
The Board has decided that QnG will be every three years.

SECRETARY
Sandy M., No report.

TREASURER
Marsha G., No report.

QUILT COUNTRY
Marsha G. announced that this will be the final year for the event. Currently, there are thirteen displays with spaces available. Some locations are: City Hall (Marcia G.), Scout Lodge, Alsea Library in August and September (we do not hang the show), Fitness Over Fifty, Landscape quilts (Ann G.) with a hanging date of August 29.  The library (Theresa V.) in September, titled “Me and My Travels.” Citizens Bank (Izzie E.) features the theme of People’s Initials. Hanging date is August 29.

PROGRAMS
Ann G. said art quilter, Ann Daughtry, will speak in June. July is the member’s picnic at 7 p.m. in Philomath Park.

NEWSLETTER
Donna W. said the newsletter was published for May. Check the website if you haven’t received it.

RAFFLE QUILT
Ticket packets are available. Highest seller will win a table runner fashioned from the raffle quilt pattern. The quilt will be at the car show on July 13. Ticket sellers are needed.

SECRET SISTERS
Jan A. The next meeting is a sew-in on June 22 at the Methodist Church in Corvallis.

CHALLENGE
Judy J. said they need a new chair.

ROUND ROBIN
The next meeting is June 10.

LIBRARY
Karen G. showed a new purchase which has already been checked out.

HOSPITALITY
Barbara G. and Lizzie E. had a fat quarter selection for the drawing winners: Beth M., Sarah O., Kelly C.

SERVICE
Nancy A. showed a new selection of quilts, many quilt gifts and veteran quilts. There were fifteen quilts shown.

SHOW AND TELL
Sarah P. showed two quilts.
Debbie G. showed 2 table runners, 2 small quilts and a large sea life quilt.
Sharon H. showed a quilt with 3852 small circles that took 5 months to appliqué.
Cynthia J. showed a well-used red and gold quilt that needs rebinding.

Theresa V. called for a 10 minute break at 7:50 p.m.

Speaker Sherry Rogers-Harrison, Ink Appliqué Quilting Techniques, first started working with white whole cloth quilts, then changed to color. The colors are all applied with a variety of permanent pens. In one quilt, she used 142 Identi pens. She also uses Sharpie Ultra pens and Gel pens. Her work is spectacular and the machine quilting, which is done prior to inking, is meticulous.

VP Theresa V. dismissed the meeting at 8:35 p.m.
