RIVER QUILT GUILD General Meeting
September
27, 2019
President Lisa Ullmer open the
meeting at 7:00 p.m.
She asked for guests and new
members to introduce themselves. Diane
R. from Dallas introduced herself.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Marsha G. asked for volunteers to
sew the 2020 raffle quilt. The group will meet at the Consumer Power building
conference room in Philomath this Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Bring your sewing
machines.
Quilt Country: if anyone has
banners, give them to Marsha to store.
RAFFLE QUILT
Theresa V. said the quilt is on
display in the Museum downstairs.
The drawing for the quilt is at
the next month’s meeting: October.
NEWSLETTER
Donna W. and Lisa U asked for a
show of hands of those who did not receive the email newsletter this month. Please
check the list being passed around and verify/correct that your first name and email are accurate.
SECRET SISTERS
Jan A. said the group is more
about making friends and getting to know each other better. Meetings take place
the third Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. The reveal is at the December meeting.
There are small gifts are exchanges between the secret sisters. The application
for membership is on the Guild’s website.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Lisa U. announced that the Quilts
in the Garden still needs volunteer(s) to chair the event. This is the main
money maker to keep the annual dues stationary. Please let her know, if you’re
interested.
Judy J. spoke about Quilt
Challenge next month. She will have packets then for next year’s challenge. Cost
is $5 per packet. She thanked Marsha G.
for helping. The October meeting will feature the 2019 Quilt challenge makers
and their stories.
Lisa U. announced that there are
two Board openings: Vice President, which incumbent Theresa V. has agreed to
run for again and Secretary, which is an open position.
Duties include attending the Board
meeting held every other month.
ROUND ROBIN
Cindy G. announced that November
is the meeting month when the members show their quilts. January is the organizational
meeting and exchange meetings where each person shows how they have added to
the design are in February, April, June and August. At each meeting there is a
free to a good home basket for members to choose from. Applications are closed
December 31st. To join, Guild dues must be paid by January 31, 2020.
HOSPITALITY
Tickets were drawn for three
members to choose door prizes.
SERVICE
Lynn G. hosted the showing of one
service quilt and said there are several quilts to be bound. She received a thank
you note from a World War II veteran in his late 90s thanking the Guild for their
quilt gift.
Next month, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
prior to the monthly meeting there will be a fabric/book sale in the Annex.
SHOW AND TELL
Theresa V. showed a row by row
quilt made while in Golden, Colorado.
Debi G. showed a small, bright
graphic quilt and a wool piece colored with paint sticks.
Lisa U. announced a 10 minute
break at 7:20 p.m.
SPEAKER
Ann G. introduced, Suzi Parron,
who has authored two books on Barn Quilts. She lives in an RV and travels
speaking about barn quilts. There are three areas in Oregon that feature barn
quilts on buildings. She began her research in 2008 and there are now 11,000
recorded barn quilts across the country.
Lisa U. dismissed the meeting at
8:30p.m.
